De-Lovely Review - (2004)

De-Lovely is a wonderful film and very well done. Kline and Judd do a nice and solid job as the Porters, Cole and Linda. Kevin and Ashley have a very good on-screen chemistry in portraying the Porters. And they age well too. Both of them look quite fashionable, in the '20's and '30's. I also liked Jonathan Pryce's performance as Gabriel.

I also liked the "avon-garde" approach that Irwin used throughout the film of Cole looking back upon his life. Although it can be confusing at first, as people break from present day into the past and back again, just as quickly as singers break into the Master's songs. But the film is expertly cut and edited, leading the audience through smooth transitions.

The film does have a contemporary feel, although it takes place in the first half of the 20th century. The surprising thing to me was using black actors as gondoliers. Giving me the impression that Europe was much more enlightened.
